Tournon, Viognier-Marsanne “Mathilda” 2014 – $15.99
Michel Chapoutier is one of the most renowned winemakers in the Rhone Valley, if not all of France. Domaine Tournon is a relatively new project for Chapoutier based in Victoria, Australia. Focusing on the unique terroir of the Victoria Pyrenees, these wines reflect the cooler climate of Victoria and exhibit restraint and nuance in a way not often associated with Aussie wine. The Mathilda white blend from Tournon is mostly Viognier with a touch of Marsanne for added depth and richness. Textured and aromatic, it is quite floral, showing lots of honeysuckle, orange blossom with notes of ripe tangerine and pineapple.
Oh, the braille on all their labels is an homage to their blind grandfather, who was the winemaker for decades.
