Ortaglia Toscana Rosso “Tignolo” 2013 – $15.99

Just a mile outside Montepulciano lies “this little angle of Paradise that we call Ortaglia.” There Terenzio and Mara craft Tuscan gems like this little charmer; a surprisingly robust red that blends the Montepulciano clone of Sangiovese that the locals call “Tignolo,” with 30% Canaiolo and 10% Malvasia Bianca. After the initial burst of red and black cherries, a pleasing grip of ripe tannins tugs gently at the gums. All in all, it’s a perfect choice for pasta with red sauce, salami, or a winter wonderland.
