Tomorrow the circus comes to town; reporters, activists, rubberneckers, and, of course, knuckleheads dressed up like clowns. Market Street will be open for traffic all day, as will the Market Street Wineshop Downtown. Many are advising residents to avoid Downtown. I disagree. Come to the Saturday Market, shop downtown, have lunch at a cafe, drop in the Wineshop for a tasting or to buy wine or craft beer.

If you feel threatened, leave long before the rally starts at 3 pm. But above all, Keep Calm and Carry On! This is our town, and we stand as a shining city on a hill (actually many hills) against hate. Market Street Wineshop Downtown offers itself as a sanctuary for any and all who feel threatened or uneasy tomorrow. As a great philosopher once said: “Come in,… We’ll give ya shelter from the storm.”

The Uptown store will be open all day, far from the circus, and they have a killer tasting planned from 2-5 pm. Lots of parking, free wine, and no racists.

My whole life I have stood against racism, sexism and any form of discrimination or hatred. Thomas Jefferson said it best: “I have sworn upon the altar of God, eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man.” Jefferson pledged his life, his fortune and his sacred honor. Me, I’m just going to open my shop and taste wine with friends. But make no mistake, I stand with Mr. Jefferson, Jesus, Ghandi, Mandela, and Reverend King. Racism has no place in America, or in a modern civilization. But why do I have to keep having a “dream,” and not just live in the reality of a tolerant and pluralistic culture?

Good night, and good luck.
