Tacchino Gavi di Gavi 2014 – $16.99
This quaffable Piedmontese white, made from the grape Cortese, comes from southeast Piemonte, near the town of Gavi. Lesser wines of the region come from outside the official borders and are labeled Cortese di Gavi, while the best wines, from inside the borders, are given a different name, one more fitting their stature. The Tacchino Gavi di Gavi, with its aromas and flavors of pear, white flowers, and citrus, backed up by a pleasing minerality, falls into the latter catagory. Think of it as the Duran Duran of the wine world; so nice, they named it twice.
