Scarpetta was founded by a couple of French Laundry alums who wanted some casual, fun, and good value wine to serve with their rustic Italian food. The looked to Friuli, in northeastern Italy, where locals loved to drink thirst-quenching, fun, whites and reds with the local “guilty-pleasure” snack – a fried mess of potatoes, onions, cheese and salami called “Frico. Ripe apple, peach and green grape fruit takes center stage with hints of fresh flowers, wet stone and spring flowers adding complexity. Although who needs complexity – just chill, pop, and happily sip this refreshing, crisp, white on the deck, at Wolftrap, or anytime you just want to have some fun.
